A familiar combination from Tamil cinema is returning to the big screen with a new story. Prabhu Deva and AR Rahman are teaming up once again for ‘Moonwalk’, a dance-driven entertainer that blends comedy, music and family emotions. The film also marks the directorial debut of Manoj NS, founder of a popular YouTube channel. The project has been in development for some time and has already introduced several songs from its album.The makers have locked ‘Moonwalk’ for a worldwide theatrical release during Diwali 2026, making it one of the films lined up for the festive period. The film marks the reunion of Prabhu Deva and AR Rahman after 25 years.The duo have previously collaborated on films including ‘Kaadhalan’, ‘Mr Romeo’, ‘Love Birds’ and ‘Minsara Kanavu’. For ‘Moonwalk’, AR Rahman has composed all five songs and has also lent his voice to every track on the album.Rahman will additionally make an on-screen appearance as himself, playing an “angry young film director”, while Prabhu Deva portrays Babootty, a young film choreographer.
Yogi Babu plays 16 characters in Prabhu Deva’s ‘Moonwalk’
The film has another unusual element in Yogi Babu, who will be seen in 16 different roles. The actor had previously revealed that he initially expected to portray just one character when Manoj NS narrated the script to him. He later discovered that the story had 16 characters written specifically for him.The music album has already introduced songs including ‘Yethu’, ‘Macarena’ and ‘Tinga’. ‘Mayile’, featuring Prabhu Deva and AR Rahman, is also part of the film’s musical lineup.The five songs are said to revolve around different celebrations, complementing the film’s festive and family-oriented setting.

Sekhar VJ, Piyush Chazia and Sandy have choreographed the film.‘Moonwalk’ will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. With Suriya’s 47th film and Silambarasan’s ‘Arasan’ also reportedly targeting Diwali, the festive period could witness a competitive Tamil cinema line-up.For now, however, ‘Moonwalk’ is the officially announced release among the three for Diwali 2026.
