Just as fans wait for ‘Harry Potter’ to return to screens with the release of its all-new web series this Christmas, the makers have begun work on Season 2.According to the latest reports, the cast of the upcoming series has expanded with new faces being cast as young Tom Riddle, Dobby the house-elf and a new actor as Ginny Weasley for the show’s second season.
Billy Barratt cast as Tom Riddle
Billy Barratt has joined the cast as Tom Riddle, the young version of the wizard who eventually becomes Lord Voldemort. This casting news comes even as the actor who will portray the adult version of the villainous character has yet to be announced. Barratt made history at 13 when he became the youngest winner of the International Emmy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the television film ‘Responsible Child’.
Lenny Rush cast as Dobby
British actor and presenter Lenny Rush, known for ‘A Woman of Substance’, has been cast as Dobby the house-elf. It is still unclear if he will play the live-action version of the character, or if the team will use computer-generated imagery to bring the character to life.
Bonnie Hill cast as Ginny Weasley
Meanwhile, Bonnie Hill, will take over the role of Ginny Weasley in the second season. The character was recast after Gracie Cochrane, who filmed the first season, stepped away from the series, “Due to unforeseen circumstances” read an official statement.

The latest casting announcements come shortly after HBO unveiled a new trailer for the series, which will be titled ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ in its first season. The trailer offers a more detailed look at Harry’s first year at Hogwarts and introduces audiences to the show’s ensemble cast.HBO’s official synopsis for the first season reads: “There is nothing special about Harry Potter – or so his Aunt Petunia tells him. The ensemble also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan and Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas.Tristan Harland and Gabriel Harland play Fred and George Weasley, respectively, while Ruari Spooner plays Percy Weasley.
