A recent expense breakdown shared by a 25-year-old Mumbai founder has opened up a conversation around what regular life in the city can cost.Jahnvi Shah shared her monthly expenses in an Instagram video, putting her regular spending at around ₹52,000. Rent takes ₹16,500
Shah lives in a 3BHK apartment with two other people. She has the master bedroom and pays around ₹16,500 as her share of the rent.“I live in a 3 BHK with two other people, so there are three of us sharing the apartment. ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 on daily purchases
Groceries, Blinkit, and Zomato together cost her around ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 each month.“Groceries, Blinkit, Zomato together usually comes to around 8 to 10k, depending on how responsible I was that month, which is unpredictable,” she said.
Commuting costs up to ₹6,000
Shah spends around ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 a month on commuting for work, meetings, and other travel around Mumbai.“Then there is commute between traveling for work, meetings, and just existing in Mumbai – that’s around 5,000 to 6,000 every month.”
Utilities cost ₹3,500
Electricity, WiFi, and domestic help together account for around ₹3,500 every month.
iPhone EMI is ₹12,000
Another major monthly payment is her iPhone EMI, which comes to around ₹12,000.“And then comes to my favorite financial decision, which is my iPhone EMI – that is around 12,000 every month,” she said.Smaller automatic payments, including Apple iCloud, Google Drive storage and subscription apps, add another ₹1,500.“Then there are those tiny automatic deductions that don’t feel expensive individually, like Apple iCloud, Google Drive storage, subscription apps – until you add them all, it comes around 1,500 every month,” she said.
Regular spending reaches ₹52,000
After adding these expenses, Shah said her monthly spending comes to roughly ₹52,000.“So before I even talk about savings, SIP, shopping, going out, travel, or unexpected expenses, my regular monthly spending is already roughly around 52k,” the 25-year-old said.She summed up her view of living in Mumbai in a short line:“Expensive?
