Fans are eagerly waiting for the sequel of the mythological sci-fi, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ directed by Nag Ashwin which was released in 2024. As the film is currently in the production stage, the filmmaker shared a major update on the second part. He confirmed that regular shooting for ‘Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2 will begin in October 2026.
Nag Ashwin shares ‘Kalki 2898 AD Part 2 ’ shoot update
In a conversation with India Today, Nag Ashwin shared that the shoot is expected to be completed by mid-2027. According to Nag Ashwin, the shoot is expected to be completed by mid-2027. “We’re starting the shoot regularly from next month and, hopefully, it should be done with the shoot by mid next year,” he said.
Nag Ashwin recalls ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ journey
Nag Ashwin also looked back at the journey of making the first film. He said the biggest memory for him was taking the project from an idea on paper to what audiences eventually saw on the big screen.“I think it’s the long journey of making the film from a blank piece of paper to what it turned out on screen on the first day of release. And the fact that it connected with the whole country and so many parts of the world, I think it’s the journey that first comes to mind,” he said.
Audience response was biggest validation
The ‘Mahanati’ director feels that the audience response was an important validation even before the National Awards. He said the fact that people continued asking about Part 2 showed the impact of the first film. “I think the box office result was a validation, and kids coming up to me even two years after the release and saying they are eagerly waiting for Part 2 is the validation,” he said.The director added that the National Award win has given the team fresh motivation.“The National Award is definitely a good energy boost for us to keep working in the right direction,” he added.

For the unversed, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ won two honours at the 72nd National Film Awards, Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Production Design.Talking about ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, it features Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Dulquer Salmaan, Disha Patani in key roles. The film minted over Rs. 1,042 crore according to Sacnilk.
