'Are you still a virgin?' Karan Johar asks Salman Khan as he's the first guest on 'Koffee With Karan', here's how the actor responded

Karan Johar is bringing ‘Koffee With Karan’ back for its ninth season, but this time, the popular chat show is preparing to sign off. Salman Khan will kick off the finale season as its first guest, with the episode set to stream on JioHotstar tomorrow. A new promo released today offers a glimpse into the candid exchange between the superstar and the filmmaker, featuring playful jibes, a callback to their previous appearance and a question that has followed Salman for years.Introducing Salman as a ‘wise’ man, Karan Johar recalls his now-viral remark, ‘It’s done, bro’. The reference is to Salman’s social media post urging activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his fast during the Gen Z protest in July.Salman, meanwhile, has his own share of teasing lined up for the host. After Karan mentions the end of ‘Koffee With Karan’, the actor jokes about starting ‘Koffee With Salman’. He also takes a dig at Karan for convincing celebrities to appear on the show by telling them that it is the last season. However, Karan soon turns the tables on his guest with a question that takes the conversation back to their first appearance together.“Are you still a virgin?” asked Karan Johar.“Control, my brother, control,” Salman mimicked Ravi Kishan in his response. The question is a callback to Salman’s debut appearance on ‘Koffee With Karan’ in Season 4 in 2013. Back then, Karan had asked the actor the same question, to which Salman replied, “Yes, I’m a virgin,” adding that he was saving himself for marriage. Karan later clarified that Salman had delivered the response with a straight face as humour rather than as a serious confession. The promo also features Salman borrowing a memorable line from Karan’s directorial debut, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, as he tells the filmmaker, “Tusi na jao, Karan (Please don’t go, Karan).”In a more reflective moment, Karan compliments Salman on appearing calm and composed. The actor responds, “The advice I gave to people, there came a point of time when I had to follow my own advice.”On September 30, Karan announced the ninth and final season of ‘Koffee With Karan’ with an emotional video reflecting on his 22-year association with the show. He revisited the early days of the series and recalled how his father, producer Yash Johar, had questioned the idea when he first proposed hosting a talk show in 2004.Karan shared in the promo, “This is more of an emotional message than a professional announcement. It was June 2004 when I told my dad that I really wanted to host a talk show. I want to get two celebrities or stars and just have an informal chat with them. He looked at me and said, ‘Karan, you will call your friends and talk to them, which you anyway do; who will pay you for this?’ He passed away that month, on June 26, and the very first day I shot for the show was August 16, 2004. I am here now, eight seasons later, 22 years later, 161 episodes later; a lot happened.”Reflecting on the many conversations, controversies and relationships that became part of the show’s legacy, Karan added, “I called lovers, friends, family, lovers who went on to become ex-lovers; some of them even got married. I nearly put an end to the careers of national icons; I am living with the word nepotism even today. Conjecture became a kind of national word; so much happened. Everywhere I go, fortunately or unfortunately, I am always asked when the next season of Koffee With Karan is. I wonder why they don’t ask me when my next feature film is, but whatever it was, I know this show gave me so much,” Karan said emotionally.Over the years, the show has become known for its celebrity confessions, candid conversations and controversies, with discussions on the couch often making headlines long after the episodes aired. While Salman Khan will be the first celebrity to appear on the finale season, reports suggest that several other prominent names from the film industry will also feature on the show. The reported guest list includes Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan, as well as Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Farhan Akhtar, among others. With its final season bringing the show’s long journey to a close, audiences can expect more candid conversations, playful banter and potentially a few surprises before Karan Johar bids farewell to the iconic couch.
