A family planning to move from Canada to India has turned to social media for advice on an important question: can Rs 1.5 lakh a month support a comfortable life in Mysuru? The family wants to make the move with its eight-year-old child, but deciding on a budget is only one part of the plan. School admissions, the choice of neighbourhood and everyday expenses are also on their minds.
Family moving from Canada to Mysuru asks about monthly expenses
The man, who previously lived in Ontario, Canada, plans to relocate to Mysuru, Karnataka, with his wife and child. He has set aside Rs 1.5 lakh a month, approximately 2,200 Canadian dollars, for household expenses.Since housing costs have already been arranged separately, the monthly budget will cover electricity, water, cooking gas, groceries, domestic help, fuel, vehicle maintenance and tuition fees.In his social media post, the man asked Mysuru residents and NRIs who have returned to India to share their experiences and help him understand whether the amount would be sufficient for a family of three.
Man asks about Excel Public School and other schools in Mysuru
Finding the right school for their eight-year-old child is another priority for the family. The man asked about admission to Excel Public School and whether other schools in the city offer a more practical approach to learning.“How hard is it to get into schools like Excel Public School? Are there other progressive, hands-on schools in Mysuru where kids aren’t just staring at a blackboard all day?” he asked.
KRS Road or Bogadi? Family seeks advice on where to live
The family hopes to find a green neighbourhood with coconut trees or access to water. The man is considering areas around KRS Road and the Cauvery side, as well as Bogadi and Vijayanagar 4th Stage.“If you love clean air, water, and coconut trees, would you recommend living around KRS Road/Cauvery side or Bogadi/Vijayanagar 4th Stage? How is the water stability in these pockets during summer?” he asked. He wants to know which of these locations might suit the family’s preferences, particularly when it comes to water availability during summer.
Social media users share views on the Rs 1.5 lakh budget
One user suggested that the family consider an electric vehicle and solar power to manage some expenses.“Buy an EV. Get Solar. Other expenses won’t be that much,” the user wrote.Another commenter asked how the family planned to arrange its monthly income and whether it would come from a fixed deposit or another source. The user also pointed out that spending habits play a major role in determining how far a budget can go.“I am also interested in this. And What is the plan to get 1.5 lakh /month? Is it from a fixed deposit or anywhere else?Again, it depends on lifestyle. What type of car will you buy there? How much will you spend on food and groceries? Do you buy premium clothes? You get me, don’t you. In India, one can live on Rs 1 lakh per month or be poor on Rs 1 crore per month. So if housing is taken into account and one lives frugally, then it’s possible.”The comment suggested that the family’s financial comfort would depend on its priorities and how it chooses to spend its money.
User suggests speaking to Infosys employees in Mysuru
Another commenter recommended connecting with families of Infosys employees who already live in the city, particularly those with similar financial circumstances.“There are some Infosys employees living in Mysore with their families. Senior leadership, because the Mysore office holds some senior departments. So I am assuming your family and finance structure would be similar to theirs. Try talking to them directly if you can get to know someone through direct contacts.”The suggestion was to seek firsthand advice from people familiar with living in Mysuru.Disclaimer: The Times of India has not independently verified the claims made in the social media post.
