You finally get the window seat.

As the plane climbs above the clouds, you rest your head against the window, watch tiny buildings disappear below, and maybe even take a photo of the sunset. But if you look closely, you’ll notice something unusual. Near the bottom of the window is a tiny round hole.

It’s so small that most people never notice it. Those who do often assume it’s a manufacturing defect or a scratch. In reality, that little hole is one of the smartest safety features built into an aircraft.

It has been there all along, quietly doing a job that every passenger depends on.
