Air New Zealand has appointed outgoing Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson to its board, marking his return to a non-executive role after more than three decades in the aviation industry.Wilson, who has been leading Air India’s transformation, will step down from the airline in September. Air India had announced his resignation on April 7.In a regulatory filing on Wednesday, Air New Zealand said former airline executives Campbell Wilson and Robert McDonald had been appointed to its board, subject to their re-election by shareholders at the airline’s Annual Shareholders’ Meeting (ASM) on September 24.Wilson is a New Zealand native and has held several senior positions at Singapore Airlines. He has also served on the board of the International Air Transport Association and as a Board Executive Committee member of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines and Star Alliance.In June, Wilson told PTI in Brazil that he did not plan to take up another airline executive position after leaving Air India.“I’m going to step back from full-time executive work, and (look at) advisory board (role), adjunct lecturing that sort of thing,” he said, adding that he could help mentor younger people.Air New Zealand currently has seven board members, including Chair Dame Therese Walsh. Board member Larry De Shon is due to retire next month.McDonald, who was previously Chief Financial Officer of Air New Zealand, is currently Chair of Vero Insurance New Zealand and Contact Energy Ltd.Meanwhile, Air India appointed former Ethiopian Airlines Group chief Tewolde Gebremariam as its CEO and Managing Director on August 5.
