New Delhi: Students from the School of Engineering and Technology at Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies-Technical Campus (VIPS-TC) have designed the FPGA-integrated silicon chip and securing a global winning spot that earns their design selected for physical chip fabrication under the highly competitive openPOWER HW Design Hackathon 2025.The project features the Open FPGA framework with Microwatt CPU using the SkyWater 130 nm Open-Source Process Design Kit (PDK). Following its successful design, the chip was fabricated and QFN-packaged through a collaboration between SkyWater Technology and ChipFoundry (San Francisco, USA), and has been delivered to VIPS-TC.The fabricated chip is developed for hardware acceleration and rapid prototyping of advanced digital systems, enabling researchers and students to evaluate, optimize, and validate hardware designs for embedded systems and next-generation semiconductor applications.

The Institute houses state-of-the-art VLSI Laboratory, equipped with industry oriented Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools including Cadence, Synopsys, AMD Vivado, Siemens, Keysight ADS, and Ansys under the Chip to Startup (C2S) Initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
