India Women produced a commanding all-round performance to seal the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe with a game to spare, registering a 121-run victory in the second ODI at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday. Twin centuries from Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma powered the hosts to a mammoth 328/6 before the bowlers dismantled Zimbabwe for 207 in 48.5 overs to secure an unassailable 2-0 lead.
Harmanpreet, Deepti power India to imposing total
India suffered an early setback when skipper Smriti Mandhana fell for a duck, but Pratika Rawal steadied the innings with a composed 61 off 67 balls. She shared a 124-run partnership for the third wicket with Harmanpreet, laying the foundation for a big total.Harmanpreet took charge with a fluent 126 off 121 deliveries, striking 15 boundaries, while Deepti provided the late impetus with an unbeaten 106 off 86 balls. Deepti reached her century in just 83 deliveries, producing an aggressive counter-attacking knock that kept Zimbabwe’s bowlers under pressure. The pair added 153 runs off 138 balls for the fifth wicket, setting a new record for India’s highest partnership for that wicket in women’s ODIs. Their efforts lifted the hosts to 328/6 in 50 overs, leaving Zimbabwe with a daunting target of 329.Nomvelo Sibanda was Zimbabwe’s most successful bowler, claiming two wickets, but the visitors struggled to contain India’s batters through the middle overs.
Vaishnavi, Deepti lead India’s bowling charge
Zimbabwe showed greater resistance in the chase than they had in the opening match, with Modester Mupachikwa and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano putting together a 69-run partnership to give the visitors some hope.Mupachikwa made 49 off 70 balls, while Mugeri-Tiripano scored 46, but both fell in the 40s as India broke the partnership at a crucial stage. Zimbabwe were forced to rebuild, and the wickets continued to tumble as the required run rate climbed.Vaishnavi, who returned to the XI in place of Kranti Gaud, made a decisive impact in the middle and lower overs, finishing with figures of 4/39 in 10 overs. Her disciplined bowling prevented Zimbabwe from building further partnerships and gave India control of the contest.Deepti capped a memorable outing with the ball as well, taking 3/32 in nine overs after her century earlier in the day. Jintimani Kalita then claimed the final wicket of Chiedza Dhururu for her maiden international wicket, bowling Zimbabwe out for 207 in 48.5 overs.
