Leaving home can sometimes make you notice the little things you once barely thought about. A routine, a social habit, or even a familiar sound can feel very different when you are no longer around it every day. That is the perspective shared by Parinoor Sharma Kooner, an Indian woman currently living in Canada. In an Instagram video, she spoke about five everyday experiences she has come to realize she does not miss after moving abroad. Her list covers public behaviour, social interactions, and road habits. But one of her choices came with an unexpected twist, as she admitted that she actually missed it after moving away.
No more unwanted staring
Kooner said she appreciates being able to spend time in public without feeling conscious about people watching her.She mentioned going to the beach in a bikini and lying in a park to sunbathe as examples. For her, being able to do these things without worrying about unwanted attention has become something she values.
Visits are usually planned
Another change she pointed out was the way people arrange visits.According to Kooner, people in Canada tend to check if someone is free before visiting. They agree on a day and time, and the visit happens accordingly. She contrasted this with the experience of someone turning up at a home without calling first.ID@undefined Caption not available.ID@undefined Caption not available.
Queues and personal space
Personal space and queues were next on her list.Kooner said the difference became noticeable in everyday situations after she moved to Canada. These were among the smaller aspects of daily life that she found herself viewing differently.
She unexpectedly missed honking
Her comments about honking were perhaps the most unusual. After moving to Canada, Kooner said she once went to the parking area of her apartment, sat in her car, and honked simply because she wanted to hear the familiar sound. She admitted that this was slightly ironic, considering honking was also one of the things she said she did not miss.
A different approach to lane driving
Kooner also spoke about driving on Canadian roads. She pointed to the marked lanes and said drivers generally remain within them and change lanes in a more organized manner. This was another road-related difference she noticed after moving abroad.
‘I love my country. I love India’
Kooner made it clear that her list was not meant as a criticism of India.“I love my country. I love India. I sometimes miss being there,” she said, while explaining that these were simply things she did not miss.In the caption, she added that moving abroad had not automatically given her a “better” life. Instead, she said the experience had given her a different perspective. She also acknowledged that some familiar habits can still be missed. Her story about honking was one example.
The comments bring different views
The post received several reactions from viewers. One person called her observations a “very true” take, while another described them as a “beautiful truth.” Another user said they had been happily living in Africa for the past 20 years.A different commenter focused on safety, saying they felt life abroad was “definitely safer than India too.”Disclaimer: The views expressed in this article are based on information shared on social media and are presented for informational purposes only.Thumb image: Instagram
