Psychology says people who turn their phone face down at dinner table may value this more (and it is not just about showing respect)

Dining table conversations are the most special part of the day where a family eats and spends time together after a hectic long day sharing what went wrong and what worked out just perfect.

But it becomes disturbing when these conversations are occasionally interrupted by phone calls and notifications, instantly lighting up the phone screen deviating attention from the beautiful description of a special moment at the children’s school or mother’s office.

But choosing not to look at the screen can feel like a small act of consideration by either keeping the phone screen facing the table or not keeping it there at all. It can just communicate a simple message for your loved ones that “I’m here, and I’m listening.”

This habit is often linked in lifestyle and psychology with being present, attentive and respectful of another person’s time. But can we really tell someone’s personality from the way they place their phone on a table?

Let’s find out what psychology says about it.
